I absolutely love using mirrors in design.  Mirrors are both fashionable and functional.  They can even make the size of a room appear larger.  In order to capture the best use of your mirror, make sure you have the right type of mirror for the space. 

When assessing homes prior to working on design projects, I frequently see functional mirrors in places that should have fashionable mirrors.  One such place is over the mantle. If you are going to use a functional mirror over a fireplace mantle, check to see if it reflects something pretty, such as a chandelier.  You do not want to look in the mirror and see the pickets of your staircase.  I prefer fashionable mirrors over fireplaces such as the Aria or Raindrops mirror found on http://www.pinkdoordecor.com/.  Both of these mirrors are a piece of art. You really don't notice the reflection that appears in these mirrors.  Your eyes remain focused on the beauty of the design.

Functional mirrors work wonders in small spaces. The reflection makes the space appear larger.  You can use a functional mirror anywhere, just make sure you pay attention to what is being reflected.  The Galeton and Winsford Venetian are great examples of functional mirrors, both found on www.pinkdoordecor.com

PILLOW PAIRING...SIZE DOES MATTER by Posh Interiors, LLC Atlanta Interior Design

I am excited because I just received my new throw pillows from Pink Door Decor.  The pillows look great on my 13 year old reupholstered sofa.  Changing out your throw pillows give an old sofa a face lift.  The size, pairing and inserts of your pillows do matter if you want to create a savvy look for your sofa.  As a designer, I love mixing patterns and fabrics. If you use solids, throw in a few prints.  I also think it is important that the pillows are of different sizes.  In my illustrations below, I have paired 22x22 inch pillows with 18x18 inch pillows.  I have even thrown in a 14x26 inch pillow in the ikat design.

All of Pink Door Decor inserts are feather/down filled and removable.   With feather/down pillows, you never have to worry about your pillow losing its shape.  Foam inserts are less expensive, but overtime, the pillow becomes flat and you can not fluff it out.  Finally, when I dress the sofa with the pillows, I love leaving a chop on the front pillow for pizzazz.

CUSTOM OR DEPARTMENT STORE WINDOW TREATMENTS? by Posh Interiors, LLC - Atlanta Interior Designer

Can you really achieve the same look with window treatments purchased from a department store?  As a designer who believes all windows should be dressed, I will always choose custom over those purchased from a department store.  Here are a few advantages of getting all of your window designs custom made for your windows:

• The treatments should be the perfect height and width for the window
• Department store draperies are usually one width, which tends to look skimpy on the window
• You can have the treatments made taller and wider to make the window appear larger.  This is one of my favorite techniques
• For longevity of the designs, you can add an interlining or blackout lining to prevent the sun from fading your treatments

SIMPLE WAY TO CLEAR AWAY THE CLUTTER by POSH INTERIORS ATLANTA

The economy has taken a toll on our finances.  Many homeowners have decided to stay put in their homes and give their space a makeover.  The first step in a makeover is to clear away the clutter.  Clutter can take over and impede your progress in your physical space. If your space is cluttered, you may feel inundated with unrelated emotional issues.  If your mind is cluttered with all of your unfinished tasks, giving your space a makeover is the last thing on your mind.

I have been guilty of having a cluttered office.  Avoidance became my friend.  I closed the door to avoid the mess.  Then one day I decided to take clearing my space one object at a time.  Every time I walked in my office, I put away three things.  If I brought in an item, I put it away along with three other items. Before you know it, the space is clean and clear.  Try this method rather than avoiding your space.  When your space is clear, your mind is clear to be creative and give your space the make it deserves.

WHAT IS YOUR DESIGN STYLE? by Posh Interiors Atlanta

As a designer, I would venture to say that most people tend to be very eclectic when it comes to design and what they like. Most homes you go in have a mix of styles and I think that makes for the best look.  We should make our space feel like it's home and comfortable. Mixing old with new looks hot.

One of my favorite design magazines is Elle Decor.  When I read the magazine, I start from the back because that's where all of the designers feature their work.  Believe me when I say, there is a mixture of looks in every room.  Start perusing through magazines and find looks you like and mix then in a room.  The key to pulling a room together is keeping it clutter free, but still embrace the looks you like.
