I absolutely love using mirrors in design. Mirrors are both fashionable and functional. They can even make the size of a room appear larger. In order to capture the best use of your mirror, make sure you have the right type of mirror for the space.
When assessing homes prior to working on design projects, I frequently see functional mirrors in places that should have fashionable mirrors. One such place is over the mantle. If you are going to use a functional mirror over a fireplace mantle, check to see if it reflects something pretty, such as a chandelier. You do not want to look in the mirror and see the pickets of your staircase. I prefer fashionable mirrors over fireplaces such as the
Aria or
Raindrops mirror found on
http://www.pinkdoordecor.com/. Both of these mirrors are a piece of art. You really don't notice the reflection that appears in these mirrors. Your eyes remain focused on the beauty of the design.
Functional mirrors work wonders in small spaces. The reflection makes the space appear larger. You can use a functional mirror anywhere, just make sure you pay attention to what is being reflected. The
Galeton and
Winsford Venetian are great examples of functional mirrors, both found on

Here's a great link that talks about the uses of functional mirrors from a feng shui perspective:
