Before and After Room Transformation by Posh Interiors, LLC

When a designer is working with clients who are on a budget, two very important components of the design process should be taken into consideration. When possible, use what the client has on hand and add a few new pieces to compliment their  existing pieces.  Secondly, find out what the client absolutely loves and make sure you design around it.

Before Room Transformation

This room transformation was clearly a case where I kept the cost down for the client, used pieces that were already in the room and decorated around what she loved.

 Let's take a look at the before pictures first. The sofa was a keeper in this room.  She was absolutely in love with the little white table in the window. In the before pictures, the table does not stand out because there is not any contrast around it.  It gets lost in the window.

Inspirational Fabric

My client also had a fondness for animal prints, as you can clearly see from the before picture that shows her old black and white zebra rug. She also loved coastal living and wanted to make sure the room housed her family photos and kept a comfortable warm inviting feeling. The fabric on the left was provided by my client and what I called, the "Inspirational Fabric".  I needed to make sure this worked in the room.

Normally when you have a fabric with a bold print such as this, you want to be careful you don't over use it in the room.  I have found that people tend to tire faster with bold prints verses solids.  Solids are also easier to work with because you can add pattern with your accessories. My personal preference as a designer is to keep the large furniture pieces solid and use patterns on curtains, accessories and small accent pieces.

After Transformation

• Turquoise Tile and Solid Turquoise trimmed in linen, feather down throw pillows by www.pinkdoordecor.com were added to the sofa to soften the heavy solid brown. 
• What was once a television stand was turned into the new coffee table.
• The brushed nickel accent table by Pink Door Decor was added between the sofa and the new accent chair to break up the weight between the two pieces of furniture.

After Transformation

• The floor lamp courtesy of Pottery Barn (no longer available) was brought in to add a water element to the room creating a flow and clear illusional view to the new seating area in the back of the room.
• The new linen covered accent chair was a great compliment to the new throw pillows.
• Creativity came into play with the leopard printed ottoman.  We had the legs of this very old ottoman repainted in the  brown shade French Press paint by Benjamin Moore and recovered in the leopard turquoise fabric. Using this fabric on the ottoman added the leopard print to both sides of the room.
• The new Durham Console table by Ballards Design was a great compliment to go underneath the client's existing mirror.

Additional Seating Created in Room Transformation

• Panels were made using the client's "Inspirational Fabric".  By adding an additional width of fabric to both sides of the window, the illusion of a larger window was created.  This designer's technique should always be used if wall space is available.
• Client's white washed accent table remained by the window.  Now, the table is visible because of the contrast created by the chairs.  The size of the accent table is perfect because it does not obstruct the beautiful outside view.
• Subtle complimentary valances were made for the french doors that lead to the patio. 
• Additional accent pieces used from the client's home, Posh Interiors, LLC and Pink Door Decor finished off the final touches needed to complete the room transformation.
